Unearthing The Undead 28 - PAUL HARTWICK
Paul Hartwick played a posse member in Night of the Living Dead. He can be seen in the shot of the posse walking down the road and walking across the field, as well as when Bill Cardille hands Sheriff McClelland his coffee. His daughters remember him
telling the story of being in the movie and how he could be seen carrying a “hanky” because he was allergic to goldenrod.
Paul went from a young boy running a trap line growing up in Fairchance, PA, to a well established highly commended commercial producer. He had worked as an ad agency producer at Ketchum around the time Night of the Living Dead was filmed.
He also had previously worked at W.B. Doner. He then worked at the Television Production Center (TPC) in Pittsburgh, where he met Glenn Przyborski.
In 1975, he convinced Glenn that they could start a commercial production company. It was founded that year and called Hartwick/Przyborski Productions which operated through 1987.
During that period, they produced hundreds of broadcast advertising commercials for clients and ad agencies across the US, usually working separately on projects, but as a team on major ones, especially ones from their New York office.
Kodak credited Glenn and Paul as pioneers for shooting 35mm film specifically for editorial on video tape.
Paul was an instrument rated, multi-engine pilot and an avid outdoorsman. He loved the woods, hunting, and guns, and he was a skilled competitive shooter with the North South Skirmish Association. He eventually dropped out of the commercial production business and moved to Bradford, PA near the Allegheny Forest.
