Unearthing The Undead 46 - Patricia Simpson
Patricia Simpson played a ghoul in Night of the Living Dead. She can be seen in the large shot of the ghouls approaching Ben by the barn as well as briefly entering the house at the end. Most notably, she's the ghoul that Ben shoots by the truck.
Patricia “Patsy” Simpson appeared as a ghoul in Night of the Living Dead, memorably seen wearing a trench coat as the undead approach the farmhouse, before her character is shot by Ben. She also can be seen in the wide shots of ghouls approaching Ben bythe gas pump, as well as entering the farmhouse during the final siege.
Patsy was raised in Evans City, Pennsylvania, and spent much of her life dedicated to hard work and family. She worked as a waitress at the Holiday Inn in Warrendale, where a chance encounter changed history—members of the film’s cast and crew came in to eat, and after being waited on by Patsy, she was invited to take part in the movie.
She went on to work as a waitress for more than 30 years, a testament to her strong work ethic and kind spirit, until health challenges eventually required her to step away from her career. Above all else, Patsy was a devoted mother to her daughter, Jeannie, with whom she shared a close and loving bond, spending every moment she could together.
Patricia “Patsy” Simpson passed away on November 8, 2003, and is remembered with warmth and respect by those who knew her and by film fans who continue to celebrate her small but meaningful contribution to cinematic history.
